I’m a freelance illustrator, author and animator based in Virginia. I grew up in California and Utah surrounded by suburbs and desert. When my parents went through a divorce, drawing was my escape. I was told that wanting to become a professional artist was like “trying to catch birds with your bare hands,” so I took my first job out of high school at a gas fireplace factory. Things got better when I met my wife, began college, and was able to get my first design and illustration jobs. In 2013, we moved to the rolling hills and lush forests of Virginia. Here with my wife, son and two cats, I create artwork inspired by my surroundings and make stories about shy kids who have adventures. I received my BA from Southern Virginia University in 2015 where I am now an adjunct instructor of digital illustration.
